THE MONSTER'S OFFSEASON

The title of my photo series is, “The Monster’s Offseason”. This selection of work investigates what creepy fiends do with their time when they are not taunting us fellow mortals. Included in the images are reimagined versions of some of the most classic eerie villains known to history. My goal for this series was to capture potentially misunderstood monsters behaving humane on their lonesome.
Each portrait is fully composed, modeled, and designed by myself making this a full series of digital self-portraits. Every photo was taken at my home in Choctaw, Oklahoma within homemade sets. I played with different editing techniques of compositing and layering to best fully immerse my audience into these strange worlds. A major inspiration for my work is found through my love of film.
Growing up, I was obsessed with Tim Burton movies and any Halloween themed stories. Burton has a way of creating characters with childlike innocence and curiosities, but always has something about them that were thematically dark. Another person who has influenced my work greatly is Stephen King. I grew up on the classics like, “Carrie”, “Pet Semetery”, and “It”. Every antagonist in his stories had some kind of human element within; Whether that be physically or personality wise. This idea motivated me to explore the worlds of these peculiar creatures.
