Leeches
Leeches, 2023, two plate polyester lithograph, edition of 22, 6x8 inches.
Displayed: Print On Paseo, Paseo Arts and Creativity Center, Oklahoma City, OK. July 7-29, 2023.
Sometimes, the people in our lives that claim to love us the most, are the ones causing the greatest pain. With this piece, I depict how advice from loved ones leads to a painful realization. Having leeches placed on the figure’s back depicts the quiet, hidden, soul-sucking effects of being in a toxic relationship. The two fish above the figure are Red Ear Sunfish, which are one of the greatest predators to leeches. The Red Ear Sunfish represent my two sister’s that helped me realize that I didn’t deserve to be treated the way I was. The void represents the safe space I have with my sisters for open conversation and honesty. The void is magenta, as it is the color of universal harmony, support, and compassion.
